I work for a trading company and I work in an assisted living facility. I received a call on my phone from a friend of mine at the dental office where I work who loves to travel abroadI work in a social service facilityI work in a social service facility and my experience when I answered a call from abroad was that I was the only one who could answer the call. I work at a welfare facility and although I don't usually use foreign languages in my office I sometimes have family members from overseas who are patients. The most common one recently is from the Philippines. At one time it was talked about that there were more brides from the Philippines in farmhouses and such a pattern is definitely increasing in the countryside. One time I received a phone call in the innkeeper's office and when I answered it it was from such a Filipino bride. She seemed to have gone back to her hometown but she called because she was concerned about her grandfather who had been admitted to the hospital. However she was speaking very fast English and it was not American English but a unique English so I honestly panicked because I could not understand what she was saying. Sometimes Japanese words appeared so I could only imagine that he was somehow trying to say something like this. At that time I thought that a nurse might understand so I called a nurse to handle the call and things were fine. I didn't think English was necessary at this workplace but it would be better to be able to speak at least daily conversation.
